About Elliptical Trainers
Elliptical trainers represent the next wave of advancement in low-impact cardiovascular exercise machines and continue to grow in popularity. By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips.

Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home.

Although different types of elliptical trainers offer an assortment of features, many of them include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won't strain sensitive joints.

ProForm Crosswalk 8.0 Elliptical Trainer GREAT WORKOUT

I love this machine. I have really bad knees and have tried out other types of elliptical machines, which cause knee pain 5 minutes into the workout, but with this machine 45 minutes just fly by. I could not believe how easy 45 minutes on this elliptical are. I also own a rowing machine and a treadmill, this is my FAVORITE!!! I highly recommend!

Reviewer: Robert B. Smith,
I recently purchased this elliptical directly form Proform for $699 and free shipping. I am 65 and retired Navy. I had read other reviews about this model elliptical being damaged in shipment. This elliptical came with 4 inch angle iron on each corner which I removed and will recycle along with at least 25 pounds of cardboard and other packing materials. I did put this togeather by myself following the simple well written instructions with no problem. I did use marine grade bearing grease in place of the supplied grease. OK there was one problem.......lol...it took me awhile to find where to plug in the power supply for the console, no batteries :), it's on the front of the left pontoon. I am very pleased with the quality of the materials and all of the welds. I suggest putting it togeather near the spot where it will be used because it is HEAVY, it does have wheels on the front.
lol.... not in good enough shape yet to use the ifit programs (20) that are included in the console, the shortest one is 20 minutes. but have used it 15 minutes 3 times a day since I rec it 1 week ago. It is a quiet and stable machine. I look forward to many years of use from it. Peace n Happiness 2 All............

It's a crosswalk, not a real elliptical (even at 22" strides position the "step elevation" is about 8"). If you like consistent stepping it's not appropriate.

It shows a good and sturdy construction for the price. The main crank is supported by sealed bearings (important): what a pity the other moving parts are supported by (noisy) bushings, otherwhise the rate would be 5/5.
It's not as compact as the advertisement would suggest (46" x 36" footprint): the real working area is about 36"W x 74"L and the weight (nearly 200lb) makes it difficult to move from the working area (2 persons are necessary or a tool to lift it).
It was a good buy from "iFitnessDirect" (free shipping and fast delivery): no problems.
ProForm Crosswalk 8.0 Elliptical Trainer Good Buy For The Money

Review Date: March 11, 2009
Reviewer: Shannon R. Larson,
Just received the crosswalk about 2 weeks ago. The instructions were very explanatory on the assembly and it took approximately an hour to put together. Thus far, I have enjoyed the crosswalk as it does not impact my knees as other ellipticals have done in the past. Looking forward to the coming weeks. So far, I consider this a good buy for the money.
ProForm Crosswalk 8.0 Elliptical Trainer DO NOT BUY

I got this elliptical for Christmas. It was broken from day one. It took ProForm 1 month to get it running and then it broke down again with in 7-8 weeks of being fixed the first time. My advice run as fast as you can!!! ProForm does not believe in fixing things in a timely manner. You will be on hold for more than 15 minutes and then be told they will get back to you. I could have bought the elliptical that is utilized at my gym for $95 more which is higher quality and it WORKS. I was really disappointed. I have owned my ProForm treadmill for 10 years no problems with it. I tried to stay a loyal customer but after purchasing this I will never purchase another piece of ProForm equipment.
